Abstract
The specific energy (SE) generated by an ultrasonicbath is quantified by means of the Calorimetry method, evaluating the effects of different operating parameters;Initial temperature (IT), sonication time (ST) andsample volume (SV). It was determined that the mostimportant parameter was the VM. The maximum isgenerated was 84.2 KJ L and was obtained with a VMof 500 ML, a TI of 15 c and TS of 10 min. Finally, theeffect of the maximum energy generated in granulatedanaerobic sludge samples was assessed, and a decreasein the size of the sludge granule was observed and thedecrease in the concentration of solids of about 60%.We determined that the ultrasonic bath generatedsufficient energy for studies with biotechnologicalapplications at sub-lethal level and maintained in all thetrials an experimental error less than 5%. We believethat more studies, using simple and economicalequipment such as ultrasonic baths, can serve as a basisfor understanding the interactions between biologicalprocesses and Sonoquímica.
