Abstract

It was studied the absorption of chromium (VI) from a solution with the initial concentration of K2CrO4 20, 50,100 and 300 mg.dm-3 in commercial anion exchange resins, strong macroreticular resin, Amberlite type, IRA -900, another type gel IRA-400, and a third type and macroreticular weak anionic IRA-96, previously activated.Chromate ion uptake showed the highest removal efficiency in solutions of pH between 3.5 and 4.5 and achromate concentration of 50 mg.L-1. This increases with increasing dose of resin and the time of contactbetween the phases. As a novel aspect indicates that the equilibrium data were correlated better with theLangmuir isotherm, which indicates a monolayer and a homogeneous chemisorption process in the active sitesof the resin particles (ion exchange). Kinetic analysis of the experimental data show that the absorption of Cr(VI) in the resin is studied and the equation of pseudo-second order and is controlled by diffusion.
