Seasons
Javier Hinojosa

During the last 30 years, the photographic production of Javier Hinojosa has been focused on the registration of archeological remains and protected natural areas of Mexico. The quality and seriousness of his work have made him an example within his field in the Ibero American Community

Javier Hinojosa speaks from silence; he voluntarily ignores words to generate dialogues and reflections. He is focused on the properties of photography to transport the spectator and make him/her part of his journey. A journey that deliberately drives us apart from the noise and hustle of the big city, to transport us to other places and times, directly connecting to our inner world.

Through his iconography we can travel through time and space and imagine how things were and could be. The language of Hinojosa is strictly visual, he uses specifically photographic elements to connect with the spectator. Nature is the main character of his images, and time is the unifying element of his production.

The management of the technique is, at every moment, at the service of the discourse. With high contrast photographs, studied compositions, and a neat printing, he manages to stop us in front of his production and make us reflect.

In a moment where contemporary communication is synonym of aggressiveness and everything is permeated by publicity, Hinojosa intentionally walks away from this aesthetics and proposes the opposite: to make us stop and appreciate with detail the magnificence and fragility of nature. His landscapes put the spectator in a natural environment and offer a sneaky instant of tranquility. A refined technical treatment and the ductility of the supports with which his work is produced indicate that we are before a delicate subject in danger of disappearing.
