Laura Castañeda García studied an undergraduate degree in graphic design at the National School of Plastic Arts (ENAP) of the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM), a master’s degree in visual arts at the Division of Graduate Studies, ENAP, UNAM; a doctorate degree in art history at the Universidad Autónoma del Estado de Morelos (UAEM); and a second doctorate degree in arts and design at the UNAM. Besides, she has participated in 37 activities of continuing education like courses, workshops, seminars, and certifications.
Currently, she is a full-time professor at the Faculty of Arts and Design (FAD), UNAM. She has directed doctoral, master’s and undergraduate thesis. She has been a graduate degree tutor and an evaluator at master’s and doctoral professional exams. She was a member of the National System of Researchers from 2012 to 2014.
Dr. Castañeda was in charge of the degrees and tutoring system of visual arts at the UNAM. She coordinated the department of photographic registry at the ENAP. She designed and coordinated the diploma course in Visual Arts Teaching FAD. Dr. Castañeda coordinated the Photography program and the diploma course in Digital Photography Theory and Production, both at the Instituto Tecnológico y de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey. She coordinated the diploma course in Professional Photography at the Universidad Simón Bolívar, as well as the Support Program of the Division of Graduate Studies.
She is a member of the Judging Committee and of the Professor’s Association of the Program of Graduate Degree in Arts and Design.
She published the book Antonio Garduño. Fotografía y periodismo en los inicios del siglo XX; and the chapters: “Guillermo Kahlo. Su técnica fotográfica”, in the book La lente de Guillermo Kahlo en la Arquitectura Religiosa de México; “Reflexiones sobre la fotografía con celular”, in the book Fotografía y dispositivos móviles; and “iPhonografía o fotografía con dispositivos móviles”, in the book Las artes y el diseño frente a un mundo complejo; “el exilio de los Hermanos Mayo”, in the book Rutas y experiencias: 80 años del exilio Republicano español; as well as the articles: “Colecciones de la Academia de San Carlos”, “La fotografía en los festejos del primer Centenario de la Independencia de México” and “Un formidable incendio”, all three in the magazine Alquimia del Sistema Nacional de Fototecas; “María Guadalupe Suárez, la primera, en muchos sentidos” in the magazine Cuartoscuro; “María Guadalupe Suárez. Fotógrafa de vistas” in the arbitrated magazine Secuencia del Instituto José María Luis Mora del CONACYT; “Aurora Reyes. Una vida en imágenes” and “Carlos Mérida y la obra Los Danzantes en el cine Manacar”, both in the magazine Reflexiones del muralismo en el siglo XXI; also the Digital Catalogue of the Artistic Collection of the Antigua Academia de San Carlos entitled “Colección Fotográfica Baxter”, in collaboration with Dr. Julio Chávez.
Dr. Castañeda has dictated 65 lectures, symposiums and colloquiums in Mexico and abroad. She produced the photography series: Reminiscencia de San Carlos; Futuro deshilado, De cartón piedra; Remedios para un recuerdo futuro; Oro Fugaz; and Entre Puntales y Cirios. She has participated in individual and collective exhibitions in Mexico and abroad.
In 2019 she was granted with the following recognitions: “Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz” granted by the UNAM for having contributed to the university mission, as well as with the “Academic merit” for her 25 years of teaching work.
