The Campus of Tizayuca (from Tizayocan, place of
chalk) was created as part of the de-centralization process of the
Universidad Autonoma del Estado de Hidalgo (UAEH), with the purpose
of supporting the regional academic demands and, thus, providing
an answer to the economic, social, and educational needs of the region.
The Campus was conceived during the administration of Rector Juan
Camacho Bertran, and was made possible thanks to land donations by
the City Council and rural land owners (ejidatarios) of the region.
The Campus was constructed on an area of 4 hectares. Work on the
campus began July 2, 2001, with Miguel Angel Lopez Gracia as the
original Campus Coordinator. In that same month, the July-December
Semester opened, with 132 students enrolled in the two degree programs
offered: the bachelor’s degree in Tourism and the bachelor’s
degree in Electronics and Telecommunications Engineering. Since the
term of Rector Luis Gil Borja, Miguel Angel Miguez Escorcia has been
the coordinator of Campus Tizayuca, which has turned into an important
emissary of education by setting the bases for regional, state and
national social development.
